Trend: Facebook and The Tipping Point

I think Facebook is the most interesting because it has impacted so much to consumers and even non consumers. For those who doesn't play Facebook, they are still surrounded by Facebook, literary. People have been using Facebook to advertise, connecting with long-lost friend, making new friends, playing games, and even to catch burglars. Just recently, a man had his house broken in and he had caught the thieves on his CCTV. He then post the video on Facebook, hoping that someone might come up and identify these burglars. Another thing that makes Facebook so interesting is that it is able to stand number 1 for approx. 5 years. Other social networking site such as Friendster can only last couple of years. Facebook is also able to stay on the top because they hear their consumer's demand and always updating their site to suit their consumer's wants. Facebook has changed the marketing generation to a more low cost advertisement comparing to advertisement on the TV, Newspaper, etc
The Tipping Point
The Tipping Point laws that Malcolm Gladwell has pointed in this reading relate well to Facebook a lot. Do you remember how Facebook entered your life? I remember I was introduced to it in the early 2007 but I was reluctant to join. After several persuasion from my friends, which is of course words of mouth. I finally joined in mid 2007 but closed it in late 2007. Facebook was so hot that everyone keeps talking about it. I don't know how my friends come to know of Facebook, but I suspect that word of mouth has a lot to do with it. Myspace, Friendster, etc has deceased. Will Facebook face this as well or will it be able to always update to consumer's demand? Malcolm Gladwell is trying to say that ideas/words can spread out fast, without you knowing. You might think that only your friends is able to see your pic/status/whatever you post but keep in mind that if you have to post it, anybody may see it, although they may not be your friend because your friend may be close to that person that you not know and they open up your Facebook profile together. We have to remember to always stay alert and cautious because Facebook is a great thing for many people and with great things comes great responsibilities.
