Social nomics, Part II

Social media is a strong medium and influence. The first thing to utilize the social media is to make people act. Social media can be regarded as an equivalent society as the one we are living in now. We talk, see, read, listen, and walk there. But the question is how we can make people act. If people are just sitting there and watch, nothing will happen. So the next step is to trigger people’s desire and call the actions.

Referral Program
It is a very efficiently internal marketing strategy, and Amazon and other online marketplaces use it to reduce the waste of resource. The key concept is to statistically collect your purchasing behavior and accurately suggest you the items that you may be interested in. Instead of throw a lot of marketing information to you, why not let us choose for you? In this way, customers do not need to go through a bunch of unnecessary information and can still get what they want. Safeway records every transaction to analyze what you may be interested in and print out the coupons to you in cashier counters. If we use this concept to social media, information receivers will be able to follow the main trends. Somehow it will be not only easier for marketers to control the sales, but also relatively benefits customers. While marketers figure out that customers are usually purchase product A and B together, the marketers may provide more promotional activities.

Content and Conversation, Not Advertising
When I was reading this section, I was thinking what kinds of advertising do not look like advertising. And suddenly something get my attention. How about creating a story? Similar to Tom & Jerry, Pink Panther, Pocket Monster, or some other cartoons. If we can connect every short episode / commercial together, it will make desires to the audiences. While people are waiting for the next coming up, they will pay more attention. Thinking about this, which conversation last longer while introducing a new product to your friends? By telling them the features of products or by discussing the interesting story of the product?
