Chapter 1-4 Socialnomics

Chapter One and Two:
When spreading first hand information three are three basic rules that are vital for understanding the channel of information. First is that new information can be slow to spread at first. Once it has become "original" information it can be altered as it changes hands. For example if you have a story; each individual who hears that story has can put a different spin on how the story ought to be told based off of ones experiences. However when looking at social media these rules seem to not apply. For example, spreading information on Face book with continuous status updates can be rapid.

Social media also offers an outlet for parents to stay in touch with their kids lives. Often times in today's busy world, parents and teenagers share time only around the dinner table, and then everyone goes about his or her own life. Social media can connect parents to kids like never before. Social media provides insight for parents into the day-to-day activities of their children.

A unique quote: "And, if what you need is not on the first results page, it might as well not be anywhere because only roughly 5 percent of users go to the second page.

Chapter Three and Four:
Social media allows individuals to take real-time inventories of their lives. It ultimately helps people engage in productive or charitable activities. In a sense reality TV has been replaced by reality social media. However social media has had a negative effect on generations X and Y generations. With interpersonal skills be relied through social media these younger generations have lost a great deal of communication skills with face-to-face encounters.

Unique fact: "28 percent of young adults say they talk about a brand on a discussion forum, 23 percent add brand-related content to their IM service, and 19 percent add brand content to their home page or favorite social sites."
