Mobile &Application and Tipping Point

Mobile & Application

Like social media, smart phone and 3G/4G network continuing impact on peoples’ life and work. According to eMarketor, “Studies of U.S. consumer accessing the Internet from their mobile phones are widespread, and the trend itself is well established.” As a result more than 70 million US mobile phone users will access the Internet from their device. Smart phones give consumers whole new meaning to the phrase, “you can take it with you!” therefore, mobile devices become the new way to launch consumers. The small size of the smart phone and the well design application could update consumer any products/ services features, promotions, store business hours and locations and etc. In the last couple years, a lot of consumers use Facebook and Foursquare “Check-In” feature to share location with their friends and family but also use the word of mouth marketing to reward their favorite restaurants or brands. For example, GAP uses the Check-In feature by providing 25 % off of customers’ total purchase to increase their sale.

The Tipping Point

Malcolm think the book, The Tipping Point, is an intellectual adventure story and it draws from psychology, sociology and epidemiology. He mentions that it uses examples from the worlds of business and education and fashion and media. Basically, the author trying to tell use that people’s opinion, voice could spread very quick and effectively. Any simple ideas and message could deliver to whole world and make it different.

Relate this idea to the Facebook influence video in last lecture, I strongly understand the whole concept. When people sign up for any kind social media, they basically also agree to share almost EVERTHING in the air. It is almost impossible ( at least now ) have 100% privacy. This could be positive and negative at the same time. People could use the word of mouth to provide and connect with others and doing the business; however, people need to really be careful what they try to present.
