Socialnomics Chapter1-4

Let kids take ownership of your brand

The research shows that there is a big opportunity which companies can think of young adult market because they talk or share a lot about branding. I was a little bit surprise of this research because I thought normally the word of mouth marketing word on middle age of people. “They want to associate themselves with brands they see as cool and this is why we see those uploading clips to their social networking sites and IM services”, the dialog explain why young adults share what they see to their friends. It reminds me that normally young adults like something that is humor or unexpected. Last year, Starbucks have done a happy hour of Frappuccino. They just use social media and mobile market as the tool to promote their happy hour. Frappuccino website is separated by Starbucks, and the website looks younger and entertainment which I feel that Starbucks try to gain young generation attention by using happy hour and separating website. Their Starbucks Frappuccino’s Facebook page has 5 million followers.

Chapter two
In this chapter, It mentions about consumers are easily to leave comments on social media and show to their friends. However, some companies try to make fake comments by building up a good impression. My ex-boss told me that Yelp.com have a services to make fake comments if restaurant owners pay for them. I think this is another issue which we should concern.

Free Pancakes Anyone
In this section, the author states that when something is free, actually it is not free at all; you still pay some extra thing by other else. Companies before needed to think more before they put promotion on ads; now they just use social media which can let their loyal customers to know information. However, for some small companies, they have hard time to gain social media followers. Therefore, I think free products for their consumers which might work on them. For example, when a customer like the Facebook page, small corporations giving their customers surprise by sending them some coupons to their loyal customers as a thank you coupons. Their customers might tell their friends.
