The code of ethics posed by WOMMA give the guideline for their members or other organizations what is the right and ethical things to do regarding to WOMM. The basic concepts of the WOMMA ethics code is about the honesty of relationship, opinion and identity. I think it is good for providing a framework for organizations about what they should do beyond government regulations. However, there are still some challenges faced in complying with these codes of ethics since it is a voluntary obligation for all those members. Even if they are not following those codes, it is still ok unless they do not break the laws.
Ideally, if all the members follow the WOMMA ethic codes, customers will have less worry for being tripped by some tricks by unethical marketers. However, I feel like in this commercial world, even if the organization claims that they are ethical with transparent information to the public. There must be something unethical issues hidden by the organization. In some sense, nowadays more and more businesses publicly claim that they market their products with truthful information; this claim is also just an advertising skill for making the public believe that they are.
I beleived the most important part is to be honest. Being honest in those three areas in WOMMA ethic code basic concept can surely gain favorable relationship and reputation with the general public and in the long run to sustain the businesses. Since customers always look for someone to trust and give them comments on purchasing. If they receive honest service from the representatives, for sure they can feel it and help you spread the words. But in my opinions, there are still a lot to work on for changing the world perspectives on marketing and changing the entire marketing bodies’ for their way of marketing.
Indeed, as a marketer, I understand that it is really hard to be a real truthful person. Since every products do have something which is not really good in quality. However, business exist for profit and as a marketer, we are working on our best to maximize profits. We can be truthful in telling our products merits, however it is hard to tell the side effect and demerit of them. This is something that really challenge marketing with ethic.
