First Blog=)

First class impression:

It seems that social media is a big trend these days and this is the reason why I chose to take this class. It is obvious that facebook, twitters or blogs are so widely used nowadays globally. In additional, because of the well-developed of smart phones, it is even easier for us to use smart phones to check and update our facebook and twitters account which also helps the growth of social media.

In the first class, we discussed that word of mouth is very important, and I believe it’s very true. It is true that word of mouth is more effective than any advertisements. When my friends said a product is good or a movie is good, I often listen and probably go buy the product or go see the movie. In comparison, I found TV, video advertisements became less effective since I often ignored them or forgot about them. This even gives me more confidences of taking this class because this class is all about social media.

What I learned from WOM (CH1-5):

The most interesting idea I found in Andy’s book is when he mentioned word of mouth is not really about marketing. Rather, it is more like a great customer services that make people talks about your business. He also mentioned that advertising is expensive and ineffective which I also agree on. At the same time, because I agree on what he said, I feel weird and confused since I have to start asking myself the reason why I should study on marketing. On the other hand, it seems useful to also think about the reasons why people should talk about you. If we know that reasons, we have more chances to create the reasons for them to talk about us.
