Second Part of the book

After wrapping up the last part of the book, I have a more understanding and concrete knowledge about what word of mouth really is. It is really a cost effectively and powerful technique that businesses should learn and adapt in order to follow the recent trend of the environment. However, it is not as simple as what I think before. There are several points that I would like to point out in which I feel that will be really useful as a marketer.

First of all ‘Do something Silly’. That is all about fun and makes your audience smile. There are thousand and thousand of things circulating around Internet. It is crucial to make your topics or what you want to promote outstanding from others and let them remember you. No one will want to see anything that is boring. Therefore try to create something that is interesting and ‘silly’ so as to get the attention of the public. However, this point is also a challenging point because doing something silly doesn’t mean that is stupid. If you are doing something stupid, you will have the negative impact from word of mouth. Critics will be browsing up which drive you down in the other way around. However, if you can be able to manage something ‘silly’ and interest, many opportunities will come up to you. The following Youtube videos are a really good example that I can think of right now. For example, there are many people who are doing their music and post it on the Youtube and get their names out. One of my favorite one is David Choi. He always does something silly in his music and makes it unique and interesting to his audiences. The result is he gets quite success and popular now through the positive word of mouths. On the contrary, there is a girl called Rebecca Black, obviously she seemed to want to do something similar but she failed. That’s because she is producing something meaningless. And even though she successful gets the attention of the public but it is all about critics.

Moreover, Andy also mentioned about blogging. He mentioned how powerful blogging can be contributed to a product. Blog creates a place that let customers talk about what they have been using and how they feel about it. Many potential users, for example, beauty products, they will review many of the comments for a certain brand or product from others blog and comments before making their consumption. It is a valuable source and data for marketers to keep track on it and see if there is any problem that may happen to their products. It is amazing that if your products are great and can receive favorable comments and reviews from others, the spreading of words can make your sale rising without spending a large amount of advertising. Ultimately, through this built up the credibility and reputation.
